Red, White, and Blue Martini

Red, White, and Blue Martini drink

Defy gravity with this Red, White, and Blue Martini featuring Mikes Hard Lemonade! This cocktail is so refreshing and bursting with bubbly, lemony goodness, and did I happen to mention it’s my own creation? You may be wondering how I created these layers in liquid that sit on top of each other, well I’ll tell you but it’s a bit of a chemistry lesson. It basically has to do with the amount of sugar content in each layer. Grenadine is very concentrated and syrup so it will sink to the bottom of the Mikes Hard Lemonade, which also has sugar but is lighter weight. The Blue Curacao is diluted with water to make it lighter and will then float on top. That’s all there is to it, it’s very simple to make using only 3 ingredients, but it does take a little bit of skillful pouring. I found it works best to pour the Mikes Lemonade in first then let the grenadine sink to the bottom through the Mikes, pouring a little bit at a time on the side of the glass (I tried it the other way around and found it tended to mix more with the Grenadine if the Mikes were poured on top of the Grenadine). Then to create the blue layer I found it best to pour it slowly over the back of a spoon and it will float to the top. Also, since this cocktail has no ice, it’s very important to chill everything beforehand. This cocktail is perfect for any patriotic celebration and is fun to make and drink! Enjoy!

Equipment needed:
Jigger
Spoon
Measuring cup
Martini glass

Ingredients – Serves 1
Mikes Hard Lemonade (1/2 bottle)
1/4 oz Grenadine
1/2 oz Blue Curacao
1 1/2 oz water (filtered)
1 Maraschino cherry (for garnish)

Directions

  1. Chill all ingredients thoroughly.
  2. Pour 1/2 a bottle of Mikes Hard Lemonade into the martini glass. It should be about 3/4 way full.
  3. Measure 1/4 oz of Grenadine in the jigger. Slowly pour it into the Mikes Hard Lemonade from the side of the glass a little bit at a time. (It will sink to the bottom of the glass).
  4. In a glass measuring cup with a spout, measure 1 1/2 oz of filtered water. Pour 1/2 oz Blue Curacao into the water to dilute it. Gently stir.
  5. Place your spoon across the glass and slowly trickle Blue Curacao over the back of the spoon into the Mikes Hard Lemonade. It will float to the top.
  6. Make a small slit on the bottom of a Maraschino cherry and place it on the side of the glass. Cheers!
