Maple Pecan Old Fashioned

Bask in the golden glow of autumn with the Maple Pecan Old Fashioned! This fall inspired classic cocktail features pecan infused bourbon, black walnut bitters and maple syrup which blends together beautifully creating a sweet nutty richness. I also used hickory to smoke this cocktail taking it to another level. There are basically two ways to smoke a cocktail, before the cocktail is poured or after. I am smoking the glass with just the ice and pecans before the bourbon so the smoke coats everything inside providing a smooth, smoky flavor throughout. Smoking the cocktail after the bourbon is poured in fine also and will provide an intense smoky flavor as well. Old Fashioned cocktails have been loved and enjoyed for centuries. Why not up your Old-Fashioned cocktail game with this Maple Pecan Old Fashioned? It’s perfect for fall! Cheers!

Equipment

Ingredients – Serves 1

  • 8 oz Bourbon (I used Bulliet)
  • 1 cup Pecans + 3 for garnish
  • 3 dashes Bitters (I used Fee Brothers Black Walnut, but Angostura would work also)
  • .25 oz Maple Syrup (100%)
  • 1 cinnamon stick for garnish
  • Wood Chips for Smoker (I used Hickory)

Method

  1. Infuse the bourbon. Add 1 cup of pecans and 8 oz of bourbon to a glass jar (mason) with lid. Let sit to infuse for 1-3 days.
  2. Make the ice sphere. Add water to your ice mold and freeze for 24 hours in freezer.
  3. Prepare your glass. Add an ice sphere (you can also use regular ice) to a rocks glass and 3 pecans.
  4. Smoke your cocktail. Place a smoker directly on the glass. Add wood chips to top of smoker and torch (pointed directly downward) for 10 seconds or until you see smoke in the glass. Set aside.
  5. Make the cocktail. Add 2 oz pecan infused bourbon and 3 dashes bitters to a mixing glass. Stir to combine. Add the maple syrup and ice. Stir again. Remove top of smoker from rocks glass and strain cocktail into the glass. Garnish with a cinnamon stick. Cheers!
