Lemon Drop Martini

Spring is finally here! The birds are singing, the bees are buzzing, and the citrus trees are in bloom. Why not celebrate with a Lemon Drop Martini? Created in the 1970’s at Henry Africa’s bar in San Francisco, this cocktail was designed to attract more female clientele into the bar. Named after the lemon drop candy, this cocktail shares the same sweet and sour flavor. I’ve partnered with Garnisched Moments who makes premium dehydrated garnishes, perfect for adding that gourmet touch to the classic Lemon Drop Martini. You can purchase them at www.garnisched.com. Cheers!

Equipment

  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Jigger
  • Martini Glass
  • Grater
  • Small Plate
  • Spoon
  • Small saucepan
  • Measuring cup

Ingredients

For the Rim

  • 1/8 cup Sugar
  • Zest of 1 Lemon

For the Cocktail

  • 1.5 oz Vodka (Grey Goose)
  • 1.5 oz Limoncello
  • .5 oz Cointreau
  • .5 oz Lemon Juice (fresh squeezed)
  • .5 oz Simple Syrup

For the Garnish

  • Lemon twist
  • Dehydrated Lemon (Garnisched Moments)

Method

  1. Make the simple syrup. Combine 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water in small saucepan. Heat to boil, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool. Transfer into a glass jar or bottle. You can store it in the fridge for a month.
  2. Make the Garnish – Cut a lemon in half, then cut a 1/4-inch lemon wheel. Cut one side of the wheel and stretch open. Pull the flesh off so you just have the rind. Wrap around a straw and pull off. Set aside.
  3. Make the Rim – Wash and dry a lemon (preferably organic). Add 1/8 cup sugar to a small plate. Grate the lemon zest over the sugar (use the entire lemon). Stir together the sugar and lemon zest to combine. Cut the lemon in half and rub around the rim of the martini glass. Roll the rim of the glass in the lemon sugar. Set aside.
  4. Make the cocktail -In a cocktail shaker with crushed ice, add the vodka, limoncello, Cointreau, lemon juice and simple syrup. Shake to combine and strain into your sugar rimmed martini glass. Garnish with the lemon twist and a dehydrated lemon wheel directly in the drink. Cheers!
