Take a bite out of an Irish apple this St Patrick’s Day with the Dublin Appletini! This Shamrockalicious libation uses Irish whiskey as the base spirit instead of the traditional vodka of an Appletini, Sour Apple Schnapps Pucker and white cranberry juice. You can use any Irish whiskey, but I recommend either Jameson or Proper 12 Irish Apple Whiskey or a combination of both! Jameson is a very smooth Irish whiskey with a balanced taste of vanilla and toasted wood. It is triple distilled and oak barrel aged for at least 18 years which creates the rich, super smooth taste. Jameson Distillery Dublin was founded in 1780 in Ireland and was originally called the Steins Family Bow Street Distillery. John Jameson, a Scotsman, moved to Ireland in the late 1770s and became general manager of the distillery in 1786. In 1805 he took full ownership and changed the name to John Jameson and Sons Irish Whiskey Company and has been a legend ever since. Proper 12 Irish Apple Whiskey is an Irish whiskey blended with natural apple flavor. It has a sweeter taste with ripe fruit, caramel and oak spice. Although Proper 12 Irish Whiskey is a fairly new whiskey (it came out in 2018) it is made at Old Bushmills distillery, the oldest distillery in Ireland. It was co-founded by Coner Mcgregor (an Irish mixed martial arts champion and boxer) and is also triple distilled and barrel aged for a smooth taste. Slainte!
Equipment:
- Cocktail Shaker
- Jigger
- Martini Glass
- Cutting board
- Shamrock cookie cutter
- Small plate
- Knife
Ingredients – Serves 1
- 2 oz Irish Whiskey (I used 1 oz Jameson + 1 oz Proper 12 Apple Irish Whiskey)
- 1 oz Sour Apple Schnapps Pucker
- 2 oz White Cranberry Juice
- Lemon wedge
- Green Brew Glitter cocktail rimming sugar
- Green Brew Glitter
- Green apple
Method:
- Rim your glass – Place a small amount of green cocktail rimming sugar on a small plate. Run a lemon wedge around the rim of your martini glass and roll the edge in the sugar, set aside.
- Prepare the garnish – Wash and dry a green apple. Cut the side of the apple just before the core and cut the end again (skin edge) to create a large 1/2-inch-thick piece. Lay the apple piece flat on the cutting board and cut out with the shamrock cookie cutter. Cut a small slit at the end to slide onto the edge of the glass. Squeeze lemon juice all over front and back to prevent browning, set aside.
- Make the cocktail – In a cocktail shaker filled with ice combine the Irish Whiskey, Sour Apple Schnapps and White Cranberry Juice. Shake to combine. Pour a small amount of green brew glitter directly into the bottom of your glass and strain the cocktail into the rimmed martini glass. Add your apple garnish and enjoy! Slainte!
