Welcome fall with a beautiful Autumn Spritz. So, what is a spritz? A spritz is a sparkling wine-based cocktail made with wine or prosecco, a mixer (usually soda water), and flavoring ingredient such as a syrup or a liqueur such as Aperol. It has its origins in Veneto, Italy, in the 1800s, when Austrians visiting Italy would dilute Italian wines with a “spritz” (German for splash) of soda water to make them lighter and more to their taste. It also tends to be a little more diet friendly due to its fewer calories and less sugar than many other cocktails (win win). I’m using an orange wine (Orchard Grove) for this cocktail along with apple cider, cinnamon syrup and of course club soda. Orchard Grove Apéritif Wines are crafted in Provence, France. This delicious orange in rose wine brings a citrusy sparkle to this fall cocktail and is perfect for sipping on a warm Autumn Day. Cheers!

Ingredients – Serves 1
- 3 oz Orange Wine (you can also use Rose wine)
- 1.5 oz Apple Cider
- .5 oz Cinnamon Syrup (1 cup water + 1 cup sugar + 2 cinnamon sticks)
- Club Soda to top
- 1/2 Orange wheel with whole cloves for garnish
- 1 Star Anise for garnish
- 1 Cinnamon Stick for garnish
Method
- Make the cinnamon syrup. Add 1 cup water, 1 cup sugar and 2 cinnamon sticks to a small saucepan. Stir. Heat to boil on medium heat. Stir again. Remove from heat and let set for at least an hour or longer (4-12 hours for a more intense cinnamon flavor). Pour into a glass container and keep in the fridge for up to 1 month.
- Prepare your Garnish. Wash and dry an orange. Cut in 1/2 then cut a 1/4-inch wheel from the middle. Cut the wheel in 1/2. Decorate the rind of the orange with whole cloves. Set aside.
- Make the cocktail. Fill a wine glass with ice. Add the wine, apple cider and cinnamon syrup. Top with club soda. Gently stir.
- Garnish. Add the orange slice, star anise and cinnamon stick directly in the glass to garnish. Cheers!
