Apple Pie Cocktail

The Apple Pie Cocktail was originally created in 2000 by Alexia Pau Barrera at Sand Bar in Clapham, England. This modern cocktail originally contained Vodka, Cinnamon Schnapps, apple and cranberry juice. After having seen (and tasted) several different versions of this cocktail some of which included Fireball, this version tastes even better and more like apple pie in a glass. This cocktail is perfect to enjoy in the fall. Cheers!

Equipment:

Cocktail Shaker

Strainer

Jigger

Cutting board

Knife

Hand Juicer

Fine Mesh Strainer

Coupe Glass

Cocktail Picks

Ingredients – Serves 1

1 3/4 oz. Vanilla Vodka (I used Smirnoff)

2 oz. Apple Cider

1 oz. Cinnamon Syrup (4 cinnamon sticks, 1 cup water + 1 cup sugar)

1/4 oz. Lemon Juice (fresh squeezed)

Apple for garnish (I used Honey Crisp, but Gala would work too)

Method

  1. Start by making the cinnamon infused syrup. In a small saucepan, add 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar. Bring to a boil until sugar is dissolved, stir and add 4 cinnamon sticks (broken up). Simmer for 5 minutes, cover and remove from heat. Let stand for at least an hour. Pro Tip- For even more cinnamon flavor let stand up to 6 hours. After the syrup is infused, remove cinnamon sticks and strain into a glass jar with a fine mesh strainer. Store any extra syrup in the fridge for up to 4 weeks.
  2. Make the apple garnish. Rinse and dry an apple. Cut one side (before the core) from top to bottom. Lay cut piece flat on cutting board and thinly slice (about 1/4 inch) at least 5 slices. Gather slices together evenly and pierce with cocktail pick through all 5 pieces at the bottom. Fan the slices out. Set aside.
  3. In a cocktail shaker with ice, add Vanilla Vodka, apple cider, cinnamon syrup and lemon juice. Shake to combine at least 30 seconds.
  4. Strain into a chilled coupe glass and garnish. Enjoy!

This cocktail is Vegan, Vegetarian and Gluten Free

Want a mocktail instead? Use all ingredients listed except the Vanilla Vodka. Add an extra ounce of apple cider and1 tsp vanilla extract to shaker and combine. Enjoy!
