Ho! Ho! Ho! Clausmo your Cosmo with this fun holiday version of the classic Cosmopolitan. This version features all the classic cranberry orange flavors of a Cosmopolitan, with a Santa twist. The martini glass is trimmed in marshmallow creme then rolled in sugar to resemble an upside-down Santa’s hat. Frozen cranberries act as “ice cubes” and a mini candy cane adds a festive touch. Perfect for all your Christmas celebrations and Santa would love it too! Cheers!
Equipment
- Cocktail Shaker
- Jigger
- Martini Glass
- 2 Small Plates
- Spoon
- Casserole dish
- Small saucepan
Ingredients – Serves 1
- 1.5 oz Vodka (Tito’s)
- .5 oz Cointreau
- 3 oz Cranberry Juice (Simply)
- .25 oz Lime Juice
- .25 oz Simple Syrup (1/2 cup sugar + 1/2 cup water)
- Marshmallow Creme for rim (Jet-Puffed)
- Cocktail Sugar (clear or white) for rim (Snowy River)
- Frozen (whole) Cranberries for garnish
- Small Candy Cane for garnish
Method
- Prepare the garnish. Wash and dry the whole cranberries thoroughly (at least 5 per cocktail) and spread them in a single layer in a dish with sides, like a casserole dish. Place in the freezer for 2-8 hours (longer than 8 hours will cause freezer burn) Once frozen you can place them in a plastic bag or container for storage.
- Make the simple syrup. In a small saucepan, add 1/2 cup sugar with 1/2 cup water. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally until the sugar is fully dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool. Once cool, you can transfer it to a glass jar and store in the fridge for up to 4 weeks.
- Rim the glass. Add 1-2 tablespoons of marshmallow creme onto a small plate. Spread to an even layer with the back of your spoon. Add cocktail sugar (you can also use granulated) onto the other plate (I find it best for the sugar to be in a “hill shape” not spread for easier rimming. Roll the outer edge of the martini glass in the marshmallow creme then the sugar (small tapping movements works great for the sugar). It should look like the trim of a Santa hat. Set aside.
- Make the cocktail. Add the vodka, Cointreau, cranberry juice, lime juice and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake to combine (at least 30 seconds) and strain into the rimmed martini glass. Add the frozen cranberries (they will float) and a hook a mini candy cane onto the side of the glass. Cheers!
