The Black Gold Irish Martini is a modern holiday twist of the classic Espresso Martini created especially for St. Patrick’s Day. This coffee forward cocktail features Irish whiskey, Irish coffee liqueur, espresso, Guinness syrup with a sprinkling of leprechaun magic (aka gold Brew Glitter). I used Black Twist Irish coffee liqueur from Ireland for this cocktail, and it is amazing. It is hard coffee that uses the finest Arabica coffee beans which are cold brewed in triple distilled Irish whiskey inside oak casks. It gives a smooth flavor of vanilla from the Irish whiskey and a rich dark chocolate that lingers. Slainte!
Equipment
- Cocktail Shaker
- Jigger
- Martini Glass
- Small Plate or Rimmer
- Small Saucepan
- Measuring Cup
- Parchment Paper
Ingredients – Serves 1
- 1.5 oz Irish Whiskey (I used Jameson)
- 1 oz Irish Coffee Liqueur (Black Twist)
- 1 oz Espresso
- .5 oz Guinness Syrup (1 bottle (11.2 oz) Guinness Draught + 1.5 cups Demerara sugar)
- 1/8 tsp Gold Brew Glitter

Method
- Make the syrup. In a small saucepan, add 1 bottle (or can) of Guinness Draught and 1.5 cups Demerara sugar. Stir and heat to boil. Reduce heat and let simmer 10-15 minutes until reduced to a thick syrup, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool. Transfer to a glass container and store in the fridge up to 1 month.
- Rim the glass. Run half a lemon around the rim of a martini glass. Roll the rim in a small plate (or rimmer) of green cocktail rimming sugar. Set aside.
- Make the cocktail. Add the Irish whiskey, coffee liqueur, espresso, Guinness syrup and brew glitter to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake to combine and strain into the rimmed martini glass.
- Garnish. Add 3 coffee beans for garnish. Slainte!
