Russian Hula Dancer

What happens when Russian vodka and a tiki cocktail collides? You get the Russian Hula Dancer! This original tiki cocktail features vodka, pineapple juice, Kahlua, lime juice and ginger beer for a unique taste sensation that’ll have you doing the hula. I’ve teamed up with InZaynity who makes very high-quality torches. The sleek design and blazing strength have so many uses from lighting tiki cocktails, cocktail smokers and even art or culinary uses (think creme brulee). You can purchase them on Amazon (see link below) or through their website InZaynity.com. Cheers!

Equipment

  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Measuring Jigger
  • Hurricane Glass
  • Hula Skirt for glass (optional)
  • Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Hand Juicer
  • Small Saucepan
  • Mixing Spoon
  • Straw
  • InZaynity Torch

Ingredients – Serves 1

  • 2 oz Vodka (Stolichnaya)
  • 2 oz Pineapple Juice
  • .5 oz Kahlua
  • .25 oz Lime Juice
  • .25 oz Simple Syrup (1/2 cup sugar + 1/2 cup water)
  • Ginger Beer to top (Fever-Tree)
  • Pinch of Cinnamon
  • 1/2 hollowed out lime for garnish
  • Small piece of bread for garnish
  • Lemon extract for garnish

Method

  1. Make the Simple Syrup. In a small saucepan, add the sugar and water. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Let cool and transfer to a glass bottle or jar. You can keep any leftovers in the fridge for 4 weeks.
  2. Prepare your glass. Fill a hurricane glass with crushed ice. Pull the grass skirt over the glass if using and set aside.
  3. Make the Cocktail. In a cocktail shaker with ice, add the vodka, pineapple juice, Kahlua, lime juice and simple syrup. Shake to combine (30 seconds) and strain into the ice filled hurricane glass. Add the ginger beer to top and stir. Add a straw.
  4. Make the Garnish. Hollow out your spent lime by squeezing any remaining juice out with a hand squeezer upside down. Place on top of the cocktail peel side down. Add a small piece of bread to the center of the lime and drop a few drops of lemon extract onto the bread. Light the lime on fire with the torch. Sprinkle a little cinnamon on top for a spectacular light show. Cheers!
